This is not his 33rd Grand Prix victory, but Fernando Alonso ends the year 2024 with an unusual success. The pilot Aston Martin was indeed awarded the Action of the Year prize by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) on the sidelines of the Gala organized in Baku (Azerbaijan) on Friday December 8.

The competition was open to Internet users on the FIA website and allowed them to choose the most memorable moment in the disciplines sanctioned by the FIA. The battle between the Spanish veteran and Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) during the Brazilian Grand Prix, which turned to the advantage of Fernando Alonso, was acclaimed by the fans:

Absent from the FIA awards ceremony in Baku, Fernando Alonso wanted to send a video of thanks. The Spaniard also pays tribute to his Mexican opponent.

“Thank you to all the fans who voted for me, declared the double world champion 2005 and 2006 in a video message. I would also like to share this prize with Sergio, because every on-track battle requires two drivers.

NOur struggle should serve as an example, not only for the current generation, but also for those to come. We must promote clean competition, without contact between cars. » An educational message which, we hope, will not go unheeded!

This is Fernando Alonso's second victory in the Prix de lAction of the year by the FIA. In 2021, his unstoppable defense against Lewis Hamilton at the Hungarian Grand Prix had earned him this same honor.
