After ten years of waiting and years of struggle, McLaren is finally back at the top of the hierarchy in Formula 1. For the first time since the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, the British team is leading the Constructors' World Championship. The Papayes have taken the lead over Red Bull at the end of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, thanks to the victory ofOscar piastri and in 4th place Lando Norris. At a hellish pace from an accounting point of view, the Woking team has made up its deficit of around a hundred points and now has a 20-point lead to start the last third of the season, with seven rounds remaining on the calendar.
Norris sees Scuderia more "worrying"
If the McLaren MCL38 is today the best car on the grid, or at least the most complete, it still has to overcome tough competition where the four best teams – McLaren, Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes – are able to assert themselves. For Lando Norris, in the fight with Max Verstappen In the Drivers' Championship, the threat does not come from the Austrian team, but from the Team.
“Going into these three races that we are now doing – Monza, [Baku] and Singapore – we knew that our main competitors would be Ferrari. They have been our strongest competition in recent times… with Carlos [Sainz] and Charles [Leclerc], they are two drivers who have been performing well and putting us under pressure. They are performing well and seem to be our closest competitors at the moment. From a constructors' point of view, we are probably more concerned about Ferrari than Red Bull.", confided the Briton from Sky Sports.
Ferrari advantage in Singapore?
At Monza, Ferrari managed to win against McLaren thanks to an excellent strategy carried out by Charles Leclerc. In Baku, the British clan took its revenge by winning thanks to Oscar Piastri, winner of his duel with the Monegasque. The score is now one-all over the last two rounds, and the two teams intend to fight again at the next race weekend in Singapore. A land that has historically been successful for Ferrari, with in particular the only victory outside Red Bull in 2023 with Carlos Sainz.
However, according to Lando Norris, the McLaren is now capable of winning on any type of track. "The team gives us a car that can go for the victory, believes the Englishman, a two-time Grand Prix winner. If you remember the first race of the year, we were behind Mercedes, and now we are way ahead. We did an extraordinary job to catch up with Red Bull. We can be very proud to overtake them and be the best team in F1." McLaren have a 51-point lead over Ferrari at the top of the Constructors' Championship heading into the Singapore round.

Ferrari is a threat because Norris won't be able to ask them for instructions to help him. Sniff sniff.

If the end of the season could be marked by a 4-way match, that would be preferable even if McLaren and Ferrari seem to be better than Red Bull and Mercedes!
