Gasly critical after performanceAlpine in Austin: "Far too rough on many levels"

Pierre Gasly had reason to be frustrated on Sunday night after the US GP. Everything went wrong for the Frenchman during the American round. The day after a brilliant qualifying in 7th place – transformed into 6th place on the grid thanks to George Russell’s start from the pit lane – the Norman was nurturing hopes of points, he who has not finished in the Top 10 since Zandvoort last August.

Unfortunately, nothing worked for him in the race. Despite a convincing first stint in 6th place, in the same rhythm of the Haas,Alpine The evolved A524 fell down the order as it came into the pits. After a long 6 seconds of stopping, Pierre Gasly found himself stuck in traffic with ineffective hard tyres and a lack of top-line speed on the straights. Relegated behind the Haas, the Frenchman then found himself at the mercy of the drivers on the faster, fresh medium tyres. To make matters worse, the Tricolore was given a 9-second penalty for overtaking Alexander albon outside the track limits.

From the performance "not exploited at all" according to Gasly

Result: from an interesting 6th place on the starting grid, Pierre Gasly finished the Grand Prix in a sad 12th place. The Frenchman was obviously disappointed at the finish of the race and critical of his team, which missed its pit stop and its strategy. "We have to do better. It wasn't good enough., regretted the Norman on Canal+. We had a very good qualifying, but today we were much too slow and it was much too approximate on several levels. We will have to work and do better as a team in the next races."

"There is [performance] but today we did not exploit it at all, he adds, referring to the developments made in Austin on theAlpine A524 and on the first relay in a good rhythm. We were good on the medium tyres but we stopped very early and put the hard tyres on, and we were slow. We didn't manage to warm up the tyres at all. There were a lot of things that weren't good enough to be able to fight and it's a shame because we had a good start, in 6th position, and then we gave up our place very quickly, we found ourselves in traffic. There were a lot of things that didn't go well, where we just weren't good enough.

Pierre Gasly will however be able to be satisfied with the promises linked to the new features introduced on theAlpine A524 which seems to be working well: the n°10 has largely beaten his teammate Esteban Ocon, who did not have the developments this weekend on his mount, throughout the weekend. The A arrowed must however continue to work on the operational part and on the execution of the race weekends if he wants to claim 8th place in the Constructors' championship…

He's going to have a nightmare all next season with a demotivated team that doesn't know where it's going. He'd better look for another driver for 2026.
