The first world crown ofOscar piastri seems to be more a question of time than a question of talent, as the pilot McLaren has it. At the start of the 2025 season, the Australian is increasingly asserting himself as a serious contender for the drivers' world championship. After the first five rounds of the championship, he is only three points behind the leader, his teammate Lando NorrisHowever, the McLaren driver is the only one to have twice taken the top step of the podium this year.

On the Sakhir circuit, the composure was Australian as Oscar Piastri outclassed his teammate and first opponent, Lando Norris, who finished third in the race. Despite his calm and tempered emotions—which can give the illusion to a novice whether he is a veteran driver or a regular at the trophy table—Oscar Piastri remains a young 24-year-old driver who is making his debut. In China, he achieved his first pole position, which he immediately converted into a victory. Two races later, in Bahrain, he achieved his first Hat trick, meaning he accumulated over the weekend: pole position, victory and the fastest lap in the race. He is the 49th driver in history to achieve this feat.

Will Piastri soon achieve a Grand Slam?

Hat trick is a recurring term in several sports disciplines: cricket, football, ice hockey and also in Formula 1. If these sports are very different, the meaning of the expression does not change or changes little: it means " make three consecutive hits "No matter the discipline, it is always an achievement for the person who achieves it.

On the current grid, five drivers can boast of having achieved this performance: Lewis Hamilton (19 times), Max Verstappen (13) Fernando Alonso (5) Charles Leclerc (2) and Lando Norris (2). In the story, Michael Schumacher is the record holder with 22 goals.

However, although the performance is already exceptional, if a driver manages to make a Hat trick while leading all the laps of the race, he achieved a Grand Slam, which is much rarer in the history of the discipline. It is, nothing more and nothing less, than a total hegemony of a driver over a Formula 1 weekend. The best in the exercise is the legendary Jim Clark, who has achieved the feat eight times. Among the active drivers, Hamilton (6 times), Verstappen (5), Alonso (1) and Charles Leclerc (1) have already accomplished the ideal weekend.

As for Oscar Piastri, on the Sakhir circuit, the Grand Slam escapes him for three short laps, since during his pit stop, the Ferrari Charles Leclerc had a chance to lead before stopping in turn. However, if the Melbourne native maintains the level he displayed in Bahrain, achieving the feat should only be a matter of time, as should his first world crown.

In my opinion, if he continues for the next three or four GPs, like this, he will become the natural leader of McLaren. As he is already nicknamed in the paddock, the new Alain Prost, he could well be the new 2025 F1 champion …….. 👍. 😎👀😉

This is probably not his last hat-trick. Norris still manages to hold onto the lead in the standings; the battle is only just beginning. It pleasantly reminds me of the 80s when McLaren drivers fought for the title. And a tip of the hat also to Brown and Stella, who once again offer us one of those duels between their drivers.
