For the first time in his career, Lando Norris has a match point this Sunday in Qatar. After losing points to his teammate Oscar piastri During Saturday's Sprint, the Briton can still clinch the world title this Sunday, and thus become the 35th world champion in the history of the Formula 1.

Having qualified second on the grid for the Qatar Grand Prix (17pm French time), Norris is set to leave Losail with a 26-point lead over his teammate, and 25 over Max VerstappenWith the Dutchman already 25 points behind after the Sprint, if Norris finishes ahead of him this Sunday, the four-time reigning world champion would be eliminated from the title race before Abu Dhabi.

For Norris, the simplest scenario would be to win the Grand Prix, which would guarantee him the world championship title regardless of his rivals' results. If he finishes second, he would need Piastri to finish outside the podium to become champion.

If he finishes third, he must hope that Piastri finishes no better than fifth to clinch his first title. The scenarios multiply until eighth place, the last position that could secure the title for Lando Norris, but for that to happen, he needs Oscar Piastri to finish outside the points. If Norris finishes ninth or worse, or retires, the title will be decided in Abu Dhabi next week, at the final round of the Formula 1 World Championship.

  • He finished third, Piastri no better than fifth, and Verstappen no better than fourth.

  • He finished fifth, Piastri no better than seventh, and Verstappen no better than sixth.

  • He finished seventh, Piastri no better than ninth, and Verstappen no better than eighth.
  • He finished eighth, Piastri no better than eleventh, and Verstappen no better than ninth.
