It's an eventful end to the season at Aston Martin, but not for good reasons. The British team, struggling on the track with poor results, has been at the center of discussions for several weeks. After losing his 4th place in the Manufacturer's championship against McLaren – an almost unimaginable observation at mid-season, as the Greens were in the game – the Silverstone team must now deal with rumors surrounding its two drivers, Fernando Alonso et Lance stroll, and his team.
On the one hand, Fernando Alonso has recently been linked with a departure from the team, either to Red Bull, or to retire. Two “gossips” that the Spaniard quickly refuted. On the other, Lance Stroll who, for several Grands Prix, has seen his future called into question. The wildest rumors on social networks even reported a total departure of the Stroll family from Aston Martin and consequently, a sale of the English team!
In the midst of this agitation, Lance Stroll wanted to put the church back in the center of the village: according to him, he will be present on the grid in 2024, still with Aston Martin and still with his father as owner. “Yes: the plan is to stay next year. You know, the season has been difficult at times. There were strong moments, but also very frustrating days. But yes, the plan is to continue next year, that's for sure.", replied the taciturn Canadian.
The AMR23 slower than at the start of the season?
Aston Martin, in difficulty with developments that do not work, will try to use the last three weekends as full-scale test sessions, in order to understand its car and work towards 2024. The English team, second strength in the field at the start of the season, is nothing more than a shadow of itself at the end of the year, so much so that Lance Stroll wonders whether if version A of the AMR23 from the beginning of the year is not faster than the current version.
“We started the season very strong. We always fought, we finished in the top five. Arriving in Bahrain we were the second fastest car. But it's more difficult lately. There Formula 1, it's a development race throughout the year, recalls Lance Stroll. So there is no doubt that the teams have improved. It's a relative game. Nobody has the same car as in the first race of the season. So it's hard to say. »
