Lawson claims Alonso 'said he was going to piss me off' after their Austin Sprint clash

Fernando Alonso was upset after Saturday's Sprint race in Austin, and he made that clear to Liam Lawson. The Spaniard strongly criticised the New Zealander's defence, who returned to their argument in Parc Fermé.

Fernando Alonso has a new target in his sights: Liam Lawson. The Spanish veteran did not fail to give the New Zealand rookie a lesson at the finish of the Sprint race on Saturday in Austin. A Sprint during which the two drivers had a fairly muscular fight at the back of the pack. The double world champion tried to find the opening several times, but came up against the aggressive defense of the Racing Bulls driver. Annoyed, Fernando Alonso even called Liam Lawson an "idiot" on his radio, before coming to explain himself to him in the Parc Fermé.

"He said he was going to piss me off, and I think he kept his word.", confided Liam Lawson on his discussion with Fernando Alonso after the Sprint. Indeed, the Spaniard did not fail to annoy (to remain polite) the New Zealander during Q1 of the United States Grand Prix: when leaving his garage, the driver Aston Martin stuck with the Racing Bulls driver and then passed him right out of the pit lane as he started his warm-up lap. Liam Lawson admits he doesn't understand Fernando Alonso's anger following their battle in the Sprint.

Alonso stings Lawson: "It's his career that's at stake, not mine."

“He was really upset, I don’t know why. We were fighting for 16th place and I don’t know why he was so upset, says the 22-year-old pilot. I hope he can recover and we can move forward. He played a little game coming out of the pits (in qualifying). That's how it is, it's part of the game and it doesn't bother me. I understand he had a pretty horrible race and I can understand him being upset. But if I had done something wrong I would have had a penalty."

Still bitter after qualifying, Fernando Alonso returned to this verbal clash with Liam Lawson. The Spaniard highlighted the danger of the Kiwi's defense, particularly with late moves at the end of the long opposite straight. On Spanish television, the Asturian did not fail to launch a new barb at his opponent of the day. "Liam has six races to prove a lot and it's probably not the best approach for him to take. But hey, it's his career on the line, not mine."

Fernando would do well to remember the Australian GP and the dirty trick he pulled on Russell that cost him a violent exit before complaining. And with the ambitions he and his boss have and the level they are currently playing at, keeping a low profile would be preferable.

It's really time for the old fart to go and take care of his green plants! When you see the damage he's done to the Aston (poor car that no longer turns because it requires understeer!) the king of low blows allows himself to give lessons. He reminds me of a mussel on its rock, well attached but it doesn't move much. Be nice for once, give way
