As every year, eight different categories will be honored at the Laureus Sports Awards, which will be held on April 20 in Madrid, Spain. Marc Márquez, the reigning world champion of MotoGP, is among the nominees for one of the two most prestigious awards of the evening, that of sportsman of the year.
The Spaniard will have a tough time against the defending champion Mondo Duplantis, world record holder in pole vaulting, tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, footballer Ousmane Dembélé, Ballon d'Or 2025 and winner of the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain, but also the winner of the Tour de France and world cycling champion Tadej Pogačar, and finally the Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner.
La Formula 1 is not to be outdone, since the stable McLaren, which won a second consecutive Constructors' World Championship title, is nominated for the Sports Team of the Year award. The Woking-based team will face competition from England's women's football team, winners of Euro 2025, Europe's Ryder Cup team, winners of the 2025 edition, India's women's cricket team, winners of the World Cup on home soil, the Oklahoma City Thunder, NBA champions, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Lando Norris He is nominated in the "Breakthrough of the Year" category, following his first Formula 1 world championship title. He will face off against footballer Désiré Doué, tennis player João Fonseca, basketball player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, world darts champion Luke Littler and Chinese swimmer Yu Zidi.
