Netherlands – FP3: Almost no running due to Logan Sargeant’s crash

Due to a wet track and especially a big crash fortunately without physical consequences for Logan Sargeant, the drivers did not have much driving time to get their teeth into, the reconstruction of the rail having taken a lot of time . Enough to dive into qualifying with a lot of uncertainty.

  • The second free practice session held under the sun on Friday afternoon was therefore only a clearing in a very windy and above all very humid Dutch weekend. While only 10 minutes of EL1 had been contested in the dry before that, the drivers will have experienced a largely disrupted third free session this Saturday morning, a few hours before qualifying.
  • The rain, first of all, pushed everyone to wait in the garage at first. Logan sargeant, he didn't wait until the track was dry to get out but perhaps he should have. The American driver was indeed guilty of a big crash at the exit of the bank of turn 4, after 20 minutes. The American re-accelerated with one wheel on the curb then on the wet grass, causing an inevitable accident, the car crashing into the rail before catching fire from behind. The Floridian extricated himself from his car, causing a red flag.

  • Result ? More than 38 minutes spent under red flag. If the Williams was towed relatively quickly, however, the rail had to be rebuilt, since it had been destroyed by the force of the impact. The wild animals were released one last time for the last 2 minutes, mainly time to perform a flying lap for the lucky ones and a starting procedure only for the others. Anecdotally, Pierre Gasly set the best time of the session ahead of Kevin Magnussen et Valtteri Bottas.
  • Nico Hulkenberg, he hasn't seemed quite in his right mood since returning from vacation. After two wide exits in EL1, then a crash in EL2 by jumping on the brakes at the first corner, the German once again crashed after having blocked the entry wheels, on a greasy and wet track, while he was shod with intermediate tires. Hulk damaged his front wing, and probably also his suspensions.
  • See you at 15 p.m. this Saturday for the qualifying session. Undefeated for pole since the return of Zandvoort to the calendar, Max Verstappen will he seek the top position for the 4th year in a row?
