No doubt, McLaren arrived at the Dutch Grand Prix with the best car. In a pattern already seen several times, Lando Norris lost the benefit of his pole position from the start, leaving Verstappen start in the lead, even if this time, the side of the track can be blamed, the drivers starting behind the Briton also not having got off to a good start. It took 18 laps for Norris to methodically get back on Verstappen, overtaking him in the first corner. From that moment on, the McLaren driver's domination was clear, Verstappen being relegated to more than twenty seconds at the drop of the checkered flag, and the No. 4 also taking the point for best lap on the last lap.
For his teammate Oscar piastri, the Grand Prix will have mainly been spent behind rear wings. That of George Russell first of all after a very good start to the Mercedes, then that of Charles Leclerc at the end of the test. The Monegasque managed to resist until the end to get an excellent podium for the Team Ferrari. With a sixth place for Sergio Pérez, the oranges move up to the constructors' championship on the red bulls, nine Grands Prix from the end of the championship...
Mercedes in retreat, Gasly in great form
After their double (on the track at least) in the Belgian Grand Prix, the Mercedes had a much more complicated day in the Batavians. While Russell held the podium at the start of the race, an undercut from Leclerc pushed him back to fourth after the pit stops, before he was overtaken by Piastri. No. 63 attempted a second save by the box box, when Carlos Sainz was descending on him, but the soft tires did not allow him to recover as he expected, so he had to settle for seventh place, ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton, moved up from fifteenth position on the grid.
Un Pierre Gasly unleashed during this event brings two points back to Alpineas Fernando Alonso score the last available unit, in tenth position. Alexander albon managed to make a daring two-stop strategy work, with a first pass through the pitlane in the first laps of the race, to finally finish in 14th place, ahead of a Esteban Ocon in great difficulty all weekend, especially compared to his teammate. The twenty drivers at the start reached the finish, Kevin Magnussen bringing up the rear with his Haas, after leaving the pit lane. The entire peloton will meet again this coming weekend in Monza, for the Italian Grand Prix!
