Alpine continues its major overhaul. A few days after the announcement of the end of Bruno Famin's mission as Team Principal of the team F1 At the end of August, the French manufacturer confirmed this Wednesday morning the appointment of Oliver Oakes in this role.

« BWT Alpine F1 Team is pleased to announce the appointment of Oliver Oakes as Team Principal. Oliver will take up his position after the summer break and report directly to Luca de Meo, CEO Renault GROUP “, reads the press release.

At the age of 36, Oliver Oakes will become the second youngest Team Principal in the history of Formula 1 after his compatriot Christian Horner in 2005 (31 years old at the time). That same year, Oakes became world champion in karting at the age of 17. His performances then attracted the attention of the program Red Bull Young Driver.

Despite a good start in Formula BMW, the rest of his career in car will not be of the same ilk and the native of Norfolk (England) ended his racing career at the end of 2010. In 2015, Oakes founded Hitech Grand Prix, a team that has been playing for almost a decade in promotional formulas, with success. While his team had its sights set on entering Formula 1 in 2026, the boss is taking charge of the premier motorsport category by joining a team in the midst of restructuring.

« I am extremely grateful to Luca de Meo and Flavio Briatore for giving me the opportunity to bring back BWT Alpine F1 Team on the path to competitiveness, rejoices Oliver Oakes. The team is made up of talented people and has excellent resources. I am convinced that we can achieve a lot together during the rest of this season and in the longer term. I can't wait to get started after the summer break. »

"CIt's a real pleasure to welcome Oli and see him become one of the youngest team directors in the history of this sport, expresses the latter. This team is building for future success, as evidenced by the appointment of Oli to such a position. We look forward to capturing his enthusiasm, his energy and his passion for racing to distill this state of mind within the entire team. »

« I'm delighted that we were able to recruit Oli Oakes for our F1 project, adds Flavio Briatore, supervisor at Alpine. Oli is extremely talented and has a strong track record of leadership and success in motorsport. His appointment to this role is a great example of our strength and confidence in our team and young talent, and I look forward to working closely with him towards our shared goal of progressing through the ranks and winning races. . »
