While his teammate Lando Norris failed in Q1 with seventeenth position, Oscar piastri set the second fastest time in Q3. The Australian driver was unable to get close to the untouchable Charles Leclerc, but by getting between the two Ferraris he can have a good race, preventing the Team to roll out a two-on-one strategy immediately, if he gets off to a good start this Sunday.

With his teammate relegated to the back of the grid, Piastri also knows that he must not let Lando Norris get by, and that he will therefore be able to play his personal card to the full. Will he manage to win his second victory in Formula 1 after the one obtained during the Hungarian Grand Prix? Nothing is less certain, especially since staying in the exhausts of the single-seaters in front of you is looking more difficult this year than in previous years...

Oscar Piastri (McLaren), second in the Azerbaijan GP qualifications: “I got a bit too close to the walls on my last lap, but it had been going well for me up until then! I was just trying to get the most out of the car, this track rewards commitment. I knew I had less to lose in Q3 on the last lap, so I tried to do my best. I felt good all session, I didn’t do a great job in Q1, but I’m happy with my Q3.

Our starting position should allow us to play at the front, but I think staying behind someone will be difficult. It's complicated to follow someone, so I hope to get some fresh air, and that would be a good thing! We'll see what we can do, I think we have a good race pace, but the Ferraris are certainly not slow."

Piastri should not be bothered by team orders with Norris at the back of the grid but a safety car (very likely on this urban track!) could artificially reshuffle the cards in the race!
