Emblematic duo of the paddock Formula 1 since 2013, Peter Bonnington and Lewis Hamilton will no longer work together from the 2025 season. While it was already established that the seven-time world champion in the discipline will play for Ferrari next year, the question could arise as to whether his historic friend, with whom he won six world titles, would follow him in his new adventure in Italy.
This will ultimately not be the case, since a spokesperson for the Mercedes team confirmed this Wednesday August 21 to the official Formula 1 website which Bond has re-engaged with the German manufacturer for the future with a promotion as he will occupy the role of head of racing engineering with immediate effect. He will also remain Lewis Hamilton's race engineer until the end of this 2024 season.
Bond will still have a double hat in 2025 since he will work with one of the drivers of the star firm next season. Whether it will be with George Russell or Lewis Hamilton's future replacement, which could be youngster Andrea Kimi Antonelli, has not been confirmed. We also discussed the possibility of seeing the young 17-year-old Italian starter at Mercedes next year in the first issue of “Outlap”, the first AUTOhebdo podcast.

Arriving while the team was still owned by Honda, Peter Bonnington notably worked with Jenson Button during the Englishman's world title in 2009 when the team was renamed Brawn GP before being bought by Mercedes.
