The manufacturer of the Formula 1Pirelli has revealed the various possible strategies for the Australian GP. According to the Italian supplier, teams will have the choice between a one-stop strategy in Melbourne, using only the hardest tires available, as well as several two-stop solutions. All of this is obviously hypothetical, as rain is expected for Sunday's Grand Prix. According to Pirelli, if the race remains dry, the drivers have four strategic options: the first is a one-stop strategy, starting on Medium tires, then pitting around lap 23 to switch to Hard tires and finish the race.

The other options concern two-stop strategies, which are supposed to be a little slower than the one-stop strategy. Thus, Pirelli is offering three possibilities: the first with a start on Medium tires, a first stop around lap 16 to switch to Hard tires, then a second stop around lap 36 to finish on Hard tires. The second is similar to the first, but this time with a start on Soft tires to be more aggressive when leaving the grid. The first stop would come as early as lap 9, with a second pit stop around lap 33 to finish on Hard tires. Finally, the third is the riskiest of all, with a start on Soft tires, a stop on lap 9 to switch to Medium tires, then a final stop on lap 29 to finish on Hard tires, which would mean a very long stint at the end of the race with a car with less fuel.

Regarding the remaining sets of tires for the Australian GP, all drivers – with the exception of Ferrari and Aston Martin – still have at least one unused set of Medium tires. The Racing Bulls no longer have any new Hard tires, like Ferrari and Aston Martin, who will again have to rely on well-used tires. However, with rain forecast in Melbourne, this slight handicap should not bother these three teams. All the drivers eliminated before Q3 still have at least one unused set of Soft tires.

As a reminder, Pirelli brought the softest tires in its range to Australia on the Albert Park track: the C3 (hard), the C4 (medium) and the C5 (soft).
