This weekend, we're going from the orange of Dutch supporters to the red of Tifosi enthusiasts! Less than a week after the return to Zandvoort, the Formula 1 continues directly with the Italian GP on the temple of speed, the Monza circuit, for the 75th Italian Grand Prix (August 30 – September 1) in the history of the F1 championship.
The Italian Grand Prix is one of the only events present on the calendar since the creation of the championship in 1950, and Monza has always hosted the Italian round since… with the exception of the 1980 season, when Imola replaced Monza for the organization of the Italian GP. The Lombard track has entered the legend of motorsport with its long straights, its incredible bursts of speed and its rapid turns.
Ascari Chicane, Virage de la Parabolique, Curves de Lesmo… so many emblematic turns that characterize the Monza circuit. The lap with the fastest average speed in history was recorded at Monza in 2020 by Lewis Hamilton, when he took pole position in 1'18″887, an average speed of 264,36 km/h!
This year, there will be two DRS zones, on the start-finish straight and on the straight following the Lesmo curves. On the current grid, there are six to have already won the Italian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton (who co-holds the record for victories at Monza with five successes), Fernando Alonso (2 victories), Max Verstappen (2 victories), Charles Leclerc (2019) Pierre Gasly (2020) et Daniel Ricciardo (2021). The race lap record is held by Rubens Barrichello, who set a 1'21"046 during the 2004 Italian GP.
