Bem-vindo in São Paulo ! There Formula 1 returns to the legendary Interlagos circuit, in Brazil, for the 20th round of the 2023 Formula 1 season, for the Brazilian GP, or rather the São Paulo GP (officially so named since financed by the São Paulo region). Like last year, the Brazilian meeting will be the last of the six Sprint Races on the program this season.

Sprint Race obliges, the format will be somewhat different this weekend. The drivers will only have one hour of driving before tackling qualifying on Friday at the end of the day. Saturday will be entirely dedicated to the “Sprint”, with the Sprint Shootout in the first part to determine the grid for the Sprint Race (start at 19:30 p.m.). Finally, Sunday will be Grand Prix day with a start at 18 p.m. French time.

This is the 50th edition of the Brazilian Grand Prix counting for the Formula 1 world championship, and the 41st run on the Interlagos track, only 4,309 kilometers long. An “old-fashioned” circuit, very short and with a lot of relief, which has seen some of the most legendary outcomes of the championship. The 2008 and 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix are the most notable examples in recent years.

The record holder for victories at the Brazilian GP is Alain Prost, with 6 successes in South American lands. On the 2023 grid, 3 drivers have already won the Brazilian race: Lewis Hamilton (3 times), Max Verstappen and George Russell, who won for the first (and so far only) time in his F1 career in 2022. The race lap record on the Interlagos track is owned by Valtteri Bottas, with a time of 1’10″540 in 2018.
