The program for the 2024 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix

Canceled at the last minute in 2023 due to floods that affected the region, the Emilia-Romagna GP is making its big return to the calendar! The legendary Imola track hosts the seventh round of the 2024 season of Formula 1 this weekend (May 17-19), for the first European race of the year.

This 31st Grand Prix on the Imola circuit – the fourth under the name of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix since its return to the F1 calendar in 2020 – will have a special flavor, obviously, thirty years after Ayrton's death Senna on this same track in 1994. There is no doubt that tributes will rain down this weekend to celebrate the memory of the triple Brazilian world champion.

With an “old-fashioned” track, narrow and with limited or even non-existent clearances, Imola offers a unique challenge for the twenty drivers on the grid. With only one real overtaking opportunity, located at the first corner at the end of the only DRS zone on the circuit, everyone will have to take big risks to attempt a maneuver on an opponent.

The 4,909 kilometer route offers 19 bends, including places that have become legendary such as the Acque Minerali sequence, the double left of Rivazza, the Tosa hairpin and of course, the infamous Tamburello, which became a chicane after the fatal accident by Ayrton Senna.

On the current grid, only three drivers have won at Imola: Max Verstappen twice (2021 and 2022), Lewis Hamilton (2020) et Fernando Alonso, including victory in 2005, after an epic resistance against Michael Schumacher, remained in the annals of Formula 1. The race lap record is currently held by Lewis Hamilton in 1'15″484, achieved in 2020.
