Friday rebounds already seem to be ancient history for Pierre Gasly. While he had complained of too much porpoising the day before, the Norman appeared in better shape this Saturday.

In qualifying, he confirmed the step forward ofAlpine by signing a third consecutive Q2 while at the start of the year it was very difficult for him to get out of Q1. Here again, Pierre Gasly almost claimed a position close to the Top 10 but an error on his last lap put an end to his hopes. Coming out too wide from the final sequence before the start/finish straight, the Habs lost all their efforts, remaining stuck at the 15e place on the rack. Despite this, he preferred to see the glass half full.

« It was positive, he admitted on the microphone of Canal +. I just didn't get the job done on my last lap. I did a very good lap and arriving in the last two turns I put myself in the tank (gravel) which makes us lose 5 tenths there. It's my fault. I don't know if it's Carlos (Sainz) or Charles (Leclerc) who is inside at that moment, I didn't really know where he was going to let me go and so it destabilizes me a little and I do something stupid. However, I must not do it. Sorry to the team. I think the lap put us close to Q3 so there is some performance this weekend. I felt comfortable. From Q1, I managed to do some good laps. Overall, I felt a little more comfortable than usual. There are (good) things even if I am not satisfied with this lap in Q2. »

As for his chances this Sunday, Pierre Gasly believes that everything could depend on racing facts on an Imola circuit where overtaking is not an easy task.

« We saw in F2 that it was complicated to surpassHe says. On paper, it is. For our part, we decided to put a little more load so we know that we are not very fast in a straight line. But as I said, I felt comfortable, the performance was there throughout the weekend. A lot can happen. We will have to see what we can do in terms of strategy. It's never over until the finish line. We saw it in Miami. You will have to be vigilant »

The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix is scheduled for 15:00 p.m. this Sunday.

there is better, that's clear, at the same time, worse would have been difficult but there is real progress in pure performance. It remains to be seen the pace in the race but it is not on this circuit, nor next week in Monaco, where we will be able to see the progress of the real potential of the new products. Thanks also to Alonso for rotting the Aston a little more from race to race, the performance curves will soon cross :)
