Nyck de Vries will make his Super Formula debut this weekend. The Dutchman will thus add a new string to his bow, he who rides in Formula E with Mahindra and in the World ChampionshipEndurance of the FIA with Toyota.
The old pilot Alpha Tauri en Formula 1 (10 Grands Prix in 2023, 1 with Williams in 2022) will take the wheel of the car n°7 of Team Impul, the one which was piloted by Theo Pourchaire during the first meeting of the year at Suzuka. Since the departure of the Frenchman, who seized his chance to ride in IndyCar with Arrow McLaren, the Japanese team placed its trust in Ben Barnicoat then in Hibiki Taira, reigning Super Taikyu champion.
« I'm sure he will do a good job, valued Yuki tsunoda who was questioned about this at a press conference on the sidelines of the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix. There are not many practice sessions and you will be competing against drivers who have a lot of experience in the discipline on all circuits. With this perspective it won't be easy for him but he has talent and he is very fast. I would like to see him win or score points.
When I was 16, I started in single-seaters, I followed the professional Japanese drivers, I observed them and I learned a lot of things. The level is very high and their level of knowledge on the settings is very high. It’s a very high level championship. »
After Motegi this weekend, Nyck de Vries will continue with a second round of Super Formula at Fuji from October 11 to 13. However, Team Impul will not be able to call on the Batavian for the season finale at Suzuka on November 9 and 10 due to Formula E pre-season testing. Hibiki Taira will then return to conclude this exercise at Impul.
