Let the purists rest assured. Williams Racing will still officially be called that, and for some time to come. In any case, this is what James Vowles, the Team Director of the British team since February 2023, assured during a meeting with the media on the sidelines of the presentation of the new FW46 in New York.

“I think it’s one of the biggest brands – certainly in motorsport and certainly in the UK. I have no desire to change it, any more than Dorilton besides (the American investment fund that has owned the team since 2020. Editor’s note), because it means a lot to me. »

Phew, there will be no erasure of the Williams brand, as is the case this year for Sauber (now Stake F1 Team) or Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri (which we no longer really know what name to use).

“Frank Williams and his legacy remain with us, then continued the former director of strategy at Classic Mercedes for sale. You will also see in the livery, if you look at the rear, you will see its arrow, subtly inlaid (his first logo imagined in F1 in the 1970s. Editor’s note). You will also see a little of the Silverstone circuit. I really wanted his brand on the car. I wanted to reflect that I'm not here to replace him, but to continue Williams' legacy. »
