With his 8th place in Canada, Ricciardo hopes to silence his detractors

After a solid race in Montreal, Daniel Ricciardo feels he has responded in the best possible way to the criticism he was the target of earlier in the weekend.

Daniel Ricciardo scored his first Grand Prix points of the season. In Miami, the Australian had already scored five points during the Sprint race, thanks in particular to a very good qualification (4th on the grid). Rebelotte this time in Canada; the Racing Bulls driver was able to take advantage of an excellent starting position to come away with points.

Starting 5th on the grid, Ricciardo avoided all the problems… or almost. False start when the lights go out, which will result in a five-second penalty. “It was weird because I was told I had a five-second penalty for false starting, but I know I didn't do anything, so I was a little confused, he remembers. I obviously wondered, but then I remembered... Maybe when I found the engine speed on the start, the car moved a little. Probably the clutch or something like that. »

For the rest of the race, Honey Badger showed great racing pace which earned him a nice finish. A first entry into the points on Sunday which resonates like a breath of fresh air.

« A bit of relief at the end to get back into the points. For a while we were no longer in the points zone. When we stopped to put in new intermediates, we lost a few positions compared to the cars that remained on the track, and then we couldn't really take advantage.

The race was getting away from us, but when the track dried out towards the end we were able to fight our way through a few cars. I'm happy to finish with four points. The race wasn't perfect, but these conditions are so difficult for everyone. »

Ricciardo smiles again

While his start to the weekend was marred by a verbal altercation with Jacques Villeneuve (which is far from making the Australian laugh), this 8th place allowed him to score new points but also… to put a smile back on his face.

“Overall it was a pretty good weekend from start to finish and I'm not going to complain – it was a really good weekend, smiles Daniel Ricciardo. It was nice ! We needed it, of course I needed it. I won't say anything to the others (his detractors, Editor's note)! That's good, we'll keep it quiet. I am happy. »

Great racing pace indeed for the Honey Badger, but once again behind Tsunoda until the instruction given to the 2 Ridiculous Bulls to fight, which certainly pushed the Japanese to make a mistake shortly after. Besides, no comment from Yuki who has really calmed down on the microphone!!
