The Spaniard and the Monegasque have teamed up since the arrival of Leclerc within the Team, in 2019. Ferrari announces that « Xavi Marcos will bring his valuable experience as a racing engineer to the team Formula 1 the development of other important company programs. »

Marcos will be replaced on the pit wall from the Imola Grand Prix. This is Bryan Bozzi, who currently serves as a performance engineer with Charles Leclerc, who will have the task of replacing the experienced Spaniard. Bozzi has been with Scuderia Ferrari for ten years, when Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen piloted the red single-seaters.

The 2019 season also marked the start of Xavi Marcos' career as a race engineer, having previously been part of the team staying at the factory on weekends. Some of the Formula 1 team staff attend the Grands Prix from a room called “Mission Control”, where they can also access all the data available to the engineers present on site, and work on various aspects of the performance.

The role of the race engineer is to be the voice in the driver's ear, and to coordinate all the information circulating during a Grand Prix, so that the dialogue only takes place between the driver and his engineer.
