At 27, the pilot Porsche Ayhancan Güven pulled off a real tour de force this weekend at the Hockenheimring. Fighting for the title, just like seven other drivers from DTM On a purely mathematical level, before the start of the final, the Turk knew that he would have to rely on an alignment of the planets on German soil, but also on daring maneuvers in the event of qualifications not taking him to the top of the ranking from the start.

Fifth in Race 1, the Turkish driver absolutely had to win Race 2 to claim the long-awaited title. Ayhancan Güven fought hard against Austrian Thomas Preining, pulling off what was almost unanimously hailed as the best overtaking move of the season, across all disciplines.

An inspiration by Güven

Unable to overtake conventionally, the new DTM champion had to work harder than he should to claim the title from Thomas Preining. On the grass, still in control despite everything, and without touching his opponent, the Porsche Manthey driver did the unthinkable to win on the final lap of the final race of the season. An epic finale in every way.

“I’ve been working for this kind of success since I started in motorsport at the age of five., rejoiced Ayhancan Güven after the most intense race of his career. Winning this title today, at 27, is not only very important to me, but also to my family, my fans, and my country. Before the race, I knew that only a victory would give me a realistic chance of winning the title. That was my goal. During the race, I refused to make any calculations and I wasn't interested in what the others were doing. When Marco Wittmann overtook me on the last lap, my team warned me over the radio that I had to win. So I took advantage of the small gap at the Motodrom to overtake him again."

Praised from all sides, including Laurens Vanthoor, who himself called this maneuver the "move of the year," Ayhancan Güven can be proud of having won a hard-earned DTM title. He thus succeeds the Italian Mirko Bortolotti and his rival... Thomas Preining in the discipline's list of winners.
