Tim Tramnitz continues his rise in motorsport. At 21 years old, the German driver has just been officially announced as the new BMW M Motorsport factory driver for the 2026 season.

Tim Tramnitz, the latest recruit for BMW M Motorsport

The latest recruit announced by the German manufacturer, Tim Tramnitz, succeeds Belgian Ugo de Wilde as a young BMW M factory rider. He joins experienced figures such as René Rast and Marco Wittmann. Valentino Rossi or, Kevin Magnussen, as well as Jordan Pepper, the second newcomer of the winter after his arrival was officially announced in December 2025.

The director of BMW M Motorsport, Andres Roos, made no secret of his enthusiasm when presenting his new protégé. He praised "One of the greatest young German talents"Impressed by his performance and adaptability during his first laps in GT3, Tramnitz had indeed participated in an evaluation session in January driving the BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Although no program has been officially announced for him, his 2026 season is expected to include one or more GT category races.

For his part, the person most concerned understands the importance of this step. “Joining BMW M Motorsport is a dream come true. It’s a major step in my career and I can’t wait to compete in my first races at the wheel of the BMW M4 GT3 EVO.”he said after the official announcement.

A solid track record in promotional formulas

Before this move to GT and endurance racing, Tim Tramnitz built a solid track record in carAfter a long period in karting between 2011 and 2019, punctuated by numerous titles, he distinguished himself in Formula 4 in 2021 by finishing second in the German and Italian championships.

Then engaged in Formula 3 For two seasons, the German confirmed his potential by finishing fourth in the 2025 championship, notably with a sprint victory at Imola. Despite a very consistent start to the season, his performances were deemed insufficient for a move to [a higher-level team/professional role]. Formula 2This did not prevent other manufacturers, such as BMW, from spotting him and opening the door to other disciplines for him, those of single-seater racing being presumably closed now.

Alongside his move to BMW, Tim Tramnitz will temporarily return to Formula 3 for pre-season testing this week in Barcelona. The German driver has been called up by the Hitech TGR team to replace Michael Shin, who was forced to withdraw due to a left shoulder injury sustained over the winter.

In a post published on social media, the British team specified that these three days of testing in Catalonia would take place without Shin in order to allow him to fully recover, with Tim Tramnitz tasked with taking over before the South Korean's expected return for the opening round in Melbourne.
