Robin Frijns now knows his teammate as he tries to win the Blancpain Sprint Series Drivers' title this weekend at Zandvoort in the Netherlands. Christopher Mies was chosen to replace the unfortunate Laurens Vanthoor in the No. 8 Audi R1 LMS ultra of Team WRT.
The Belgian team chose an internal solution to deal with the injury of its natural leader, who suffered an accident last Saturday in Misano in Italy, a mishap which left him with leg and hip fractures.
The German Mies knows the German GT3 by heart, he who usually drives the No. 2 alongside the Belgian Enzo Ide. He will help Robin Frijns in the title fight, who has an eight-point lead over Bentley Team HTP duo Vincent Abril and Maximilian Buhk.
Norbert Siedler also remains in the race for the title, after his double in Misano with the Ferrari 458 Italia from Rinaldi Racing. The Austrian will be supported this weekend by Jeroen Bleekemolen, the Dutchman replacing Marco Seefried, held by its commitments in WEC in Fuji.
Note that the No. 2 Audi of Team WRT will be entrusted to the Belgian-Danish duo Fred Vervisch – Nicki Thiim in the Netherlands.
