Announced in January 2023 as part of the 24 Hours of Daytona, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R entered competition at the start of 2024, notably in the World Championship.Endurance of the FIA ​​with TF Sport, in IMSA with Pratt Miller and AWA or in GT World Challenge America with DXDT Racing.

It was the latter team that managed to make the new weapon from Detroit (Michigan) a winning car. On Saturday, Tommy Milner and Alec Udell won the first 90-minute race of the GT World Challenge America held on the Circuit of the Americas in Austin (Texas), the third meeting of the American championship after Sonoma (California) and Sebring (Florida). ).

First Pro race for the Corvette, first victory

It was in Florida that DXDT Racing entered a Z06 GT3.R for the first time, the No. 08 of Bryan Sellers and Scott Smithson in the Pro-Am category. At COTA, the team added a second car to its effort with Tommy Milner and Alec Udell in the No. 63, fielded in Pro.

Qualified in pole position in his category and in third place on the grid, Udell had to avoid Philip Ellis's spin at the first corner (Mercedes-AMG GT3 n°91 Regulator Racing), caught by Luca Mars (Acura NSX GT3 EVO22 n°93 Racers Edge Motorsports) while braking while he started in second position. This paved the way for the Ferrari 296 GT3 #88 of AF Corse of poleman Riccardo Agostini as well as the BMW M4 GT3 of ST Racing, the #28 of Bill Auberlen and the #38 of Samantha Tan. Udell finished the first lap in fifth place.

The American driver then embarked on a strong comeback, overtaking his opponents one by one and making the obligatory pit stop in second position behind Agostini to give way to Tommy Milner. The Corvette factory driver got the better of the Ferrari 35 minutes from the checkerboard to race to victory. “ It's important for Chevrolet, for Corvette Racing and for Pratt Miller to achieve this first victory for the Z06 GT3.R, Milner said upon arrival. As a customer team you need to show that the car is fast and what it is capable of. Winning this first victory is an important step for the program, we no longer have to think about it! Tan and Verhagen (ST Racing) win the Pro-Am

Milner and Udell finished ahead of the #38 ST Racing BMW co-driven by Samantha Tan and Neil Verhagen who at the same time won the Pro-Am classification ahead of Jake Pedersen and Trent Hindman on the Porsche 992 GT3 R n°85 from the RS1 team. The latter also complete the overall podium.

« We have progressed a lot over the years and much of that is due to our work with Neil, said Samantha Tan. It's a real obstacle course and it is certain that today we had to dig deep within ourselves. »
