Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle has died

Greg Biffle, a 19-time NASCAR Cup Series winner, died Thursday in a plane crash, along with his wife and two children.

Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle has died

The terrible news was confirmed Thursday evening: former pilot Greg Biffle died following a plane crash at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. His wife Cristina and children Emma and Ryder were also on board the aircraft, which crashed while attempting to land moments after taking off from the same airport.

Aged 55, Biffle had won two titles in the national series of the NASCARHe competed in the Busch Series in 2002 and the Truck Series in 2000. He won 19 NASCAR Cup Series races, finishing second in the championship in 2005, his best result in the premier class of stock car racing in the United States. He raced several times in 2022, his last races before retiring from competition. In 2023, he was named one of the 75 greatest drivers in NASCAR history during the 75th anniversary celebrations of the American championship.

Last year, Greg Biffle came to the aid of the victims of Hurricane Helene, which devastated the southeastern United States. The former pilot notably used his personal helicopter to rescue people affected by the disaster, and provided some with food, clothing, and Starlink connections so they could once again communicate with their loved ones.

Biffle's family was on their way to the home of pilot Garrett Mitchell, better known as Cleetus MacFarland on YouTube. The two men had become friends, particularly during their time helping those affected by Hurricane Helene. Mitchell confirmed the news on his social media.
