Author of 436 starts in the three national series of the NASCARMichael Annett spent three seasons at the top of the American racing pyramid, driving in the Cup Series for Turner Scott Motorsports from 2014 to 2016.
The Des Moines, Iowa native was one of those "journeymen," drivers who seized opportunities without having impressive budgets to climb the NASCAR ranks. It was only at the end of his career, starting in 2017, that he was able to experience cutting-edge equipment, joining JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Winner of the Daytona race two years later, Annett returned the favor to Dale Earnhardt Jr. that the family patriarch had done for Michael Waltrip by signing him for the 2001 NASCAR Cup Series season with Dale Earnhardt Incorporated. After more than 600 Cup Series starts, Waltrip finally achieved his first victory in the season's opening race, the Daytona 500, where Earnhardt tragically lost his life in the final corner.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Annett family following the passing of our friend Michael Annett.", said JR Motorsports, where he raced until his retirement in 2021. “Michael was a key member of JRM from 2017 until his retirement in 2021 and played a significant role in transforming our organization into the four-car team it is today.”

Throughout his career, he represented our sport with integrity and the passion of a true driver. NASCAR extends its condolences to Michael’s family and many friends.”
His former rivals, such as Brad Keselowski, Noah Gragson, and Sammy Smith, who now drives for JR Motorsports, paid tribute to him on social media. The entire AUTOhebdo team extends its condolences to the family and friends of Michael Annett.
