The Wood brothers' team is in fact the oldest still operating under its original name (Petty Enterprises merged with other teams over time to become Legacy Motor Club), and has been returning to favor for about ten years after some more difficult periods. Berry overtook Daniel Suárez (Trackhouse Racing) for the win with fifteen laps to go, and built up a lead of more than a second to ensure that nothing and no one would stop him from winning.
"I don't even know what to think.", declared the day's winner on Victory Lane. “It’s really great, I love this track, and it usually loves me back! I’ve just had more difficulties since the Next Gen arrived here, but the whole team did an impeccable job to give me a great car today. It was simply our day, I can’t believe it. What a fight with Daniel, we were almost colliding, even though we’re on a speedway, we just had to manage to get in front and that was our case.”
A caution on lap 195 changed the face of the race, which then saw the outsiders take center stage, with Ryan Preece (RFK Racing) behind Berry and Suárez, who recorded his best result in the Cup Series. The safety car intervention for a seven-car crash occurred during green-flag pit stops, sending leader Kyle Larson (Hendrick Motorsports) back to eighteenth. He managed to climb back into the top 10 by the time the checkered flag fell.
Winner of the last three races in NASCAR Cup Series contender Christopher Bell (Joe Gibbs Racing) had to settle for twelfth place in Las Vegas, and will therefore not be able to achieve a four-in-a-row finish. The race returns to the East Coast, more precisely to Florida, next Sunday for the Homestead-Miami race.
