It seems like a long time ago, the time when Kyle Larson won by barely a thousandth of a second in Kansas... That was last year, but this time, the driver of the #5 Chevrolet left no doubt at any time, taking off from the start of the race. After winning the first two segments, he was put under pressure for a few laps, starting again alongside his teammate Chase Elliott, and in front of the Ford of Brad Keselowski (RFK Racing). The two launched into a battle for the lead, but Keselowski suffered a puncture on his front-right tire with 72 laps to go.
A bad pit stop for Elliott, and Kyle Larson reclaimed the position he had held for most of the race. Late in the race, he appeared to be starting to have trouble with his right front tire as well, but the finish line was crossed before Christopher Bell (Joe Gibbs Racing) had time to catch him with his ToyotaRyan Blaney's Ford (Team Penske) crossed the checkered flag in third place. Kyle Larson currently leads the championship by 35 points over his teammate William Byron, who had a more difficult day, losing a lap early in the race, also due to a flat tire.
"I simply had a good car, and my team performed perfectly throughout the event.", explained the winner of the day, who will participate next week in the All-Star Race, while focusing on his big goal of the year, the Indy 500/Coca-Cola 600 double on the same day. "I'm glad I didn't win by a thousandth of a second this time and had a slightly safer gap. Congratulations to the entire Hendrick Motorsports team, the engine shop, everyone."
