The event, with an initial duration of 300 laps, was finally extended by 31 loops with the five yellow flags at the end of the event, which forced as many Overtime-type restarts. The race ended well under green flag conditions, and Logano thus took his first victory of the season, allowing him to access the Playoffs at the end of the championship. The double champion arrived in Nashville in 16th position in the points classification, a few units ahead of 17th, and the first eliminated from this phase comprising the last ten races of the season.

Where a full tank of fuel allowed for around 80 laps under a green flag, Logano was able to complete the final 110 laps after his final passage through the pit lane. He was certainly able to count on 42 loops contested under neutralization regime, but the Ford driver was one of the only ones to see the finish having saved so much. Chase Briscoe, Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott all broke down during the last restarts, each one wilder than the last. The differences in pace being enormous between pilots who were economical, those who attacked more and those who simply broke down, accidents were numerous.

A top 5 turned upside down

“I know as I entered Turn 3, my fuel light came on, and the engine started to misfire as I passed the line. I clearly used everything I had in the tank! », explained Logano after his victory. “I'm very proud of the whole team, it's been a stressful few weeks trying to get to the playoffs, and being able to win here is huge for our season. It's great to have done it. It feels good. »

The driver of the number 22 had won the race on the penultimate restart, but the yellow flag came out just after the last corner, forcing the peloton to restart for two final loops. Behind Logano, it was the young Zane Smith who finished second in another Ford, thus obtaining his best result in the Cup Series. Tyler Reddick, Ryan Preece and Chris Buescher complete the top 5 of a race which was interrupted by rain shortly before the halfway point of the race. If the first part of the race was rather clean, the second half was more turbulent, and the race was ultimately neutralized 15 times. Next stop this weekend, in the streets of Chicago!
