EuroNASCAR may claim to be American-inspired, but it remains a discipline practiced in 2023 on the Old Continent. With the consequences that we so often experience in other categories.
When two competitors hit each other's bumpers or rub against each other's doors, they are generally placed "under investigation". Especially if one triumphs and takes an important step towards the title while his rival fumes in the gravel trap.
This is precisely what happened this Saturday late afternoon during race 1 of EuroNASCAR 2.
The track was dry and, from the outset, we saw a great takeover by Claudio Remigio Cappelli. Ephemeral leadership, his car experiencing technical problems.
Very quickly, a duel began between Alberto Naska and Paul Jouffreau. The Italian driver took control until a Full Course Yellow was imposed to evacuate a broken down car.
At the restart, in the 10th of the 15 rounds scheduled, Jouffreau placed a muscular attack on his opponent. Which ended up in a gravel trap. The incident was immediately placed under investigation. At the time of writing, the outcome was not known.
« Definitely not the way I like to get a win, said Paul a few moments from climbing onto the 1st step of the podium while his supporters sang La Marseillaise. I will obviously comply with the decision of the Stewards but, from my point of view, I have not committed an unsporting act. »
« From the outside, I have the impression that Paul went a little too hard, proclaimed Gil Linster, witness to the exchange of arms between the two protagonists. I don't know if I should be satisfied with my 2nd place or celebrate a victory that will come back to me on the green carpet. »
The officials' decision is of the utmost importance and risks tipping the title to one camp or the other.
