BMW will field an M3 Touring based on its GT3 at the Nürburgring

One thing is certain: it won't go unnoticed! The BMW M3 Touring 24H, a true racing station wagon, will take to the track next weekend for the second round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken Series, the first round having been canceled last weekend. Entered in the SPX category, the car aims to compete in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, which will take place on May 16th and 17th.

It all started as an April Fool's joke last year, when BMW's communications team published a mock-up of a racing version of the new M3 Touring. Reaching over 1,6 million views, and especially generating a lot of demand from fans, the real racing version then began to take shape at BMW M Motorsport. Eight months after its development began, the M3 Touring 24H was born.

Based on the BMW M4 GT3 Evo, with which it shares all mechanical components, and consists "only" of a different aero kit, the new machine is 200 millimeters longer and 32 millimeters taller than the GT3 version, thanks to an imposing rear wing.

Jens Klingmann, Ugo de Wilde, Connor De Phillippi, and Neil Verhagen will be at the wheel of this machine during the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, which will be the final racing appearance of this extremely special prototype. Conceived as a love letter to fans of the "Green Hell," the M3 Touring 24H will almost certainly go down in the history of the German endurance classic very quickly… The four-time world champion of F1, Max Verstappen, will at least be able to cross paths with her on the track, as he will be participating in the 24 Hours for the first time this year.

When you think that more than 30 years ago Volvo entered an 850 T5 Break in BTCC and that it only produced 280hp at the time, only in front-wheel drive, and that today an "M3" touring produces ~590hp....

It might seem like a crazy idea, this commitment to an M3 Touring, but from a publicity standpoint, it's already a success. We'll see how it performs in the race... 😎BMW👍 Alain Féguenne F1 Competitions - 24 Hours of Le Mans - WEC
