Sunday afternoon, at 16 p.m., the Porsche The Manthey EMA team's 911 GT3 R "Grello" was the first to cross the finish line of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, with Kevin Estre at the wheel. However, it was ultimately placed second in the legendary event following a 100-second penalty.
So, as a reminder, on Sunday, around 10:15 a.m., the decisive moment occurred. While leading the race, Estre was under increasing pressure from the #98 ROWE Racing BMW. In the section of the circuit called "Miss-Hit-Miss," the Frenchman was trying to overtake a Aston Martin from the inside at the third bend.
This overtaking caused contact, causing the British car to crash. About three hours later, race control imposed a 100-second penalty, which was retroactively added to the car's total race time after the finish. The French driver, driving for the final stint, gave his all to try to extend the gap on the BMW, but in vain. Because of the penalty, the No. 98 (Farfus-van der Linde-Marciello-Krohn) won by 1'17 ahead of the Porsche.
Estre on his race: "We did a fantastic job"
At the end of these 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, Kévin Estre returned to this unfortunate incident which cost his team the victory. "100 seconds is a severe penalty. I saw the opening on the inside and tried to overtake. The other car had already received three blue flags but still spun into the corner. I had nowhere to go, despite an evasive maneuver on the kerbs and in the grass.", admitted the Frenchman.
"This caused contact, with serious consequences, as the car rolled over. I am relieved that the driver is okay.", he continued.
Before concluding, while being satisfied despite everything with his performance and that of his team Manthey EMA: "Unlike my penultimate stint, the last one went well. The tires held up better and the Porsche worked very well again. We ran the 24 hours with relentless determination. I think we did a fantastic job. »

Even though there was a rush, the Aston received many blue flags and by leaving the mock trajectory should not have taken the lead, thus deceiving Estre who also forced a little ... The problem is that the authorities once again, judge the consequence and not the cause! Clearly, if the Aston had just put 2 wheels in the grass and continued on its way, no one would have talked about it.

This is one of the reasons why an ickx or a Kristensen had so many victories at Le Mans... Sometimes you have to use your brain..

Estre played and this time he lost. With another pro, it could have ended better, and even better. But here, he shows no respect for this brave amateur who ends up on the roof. A logical punishment. Otherwise, he should just stop running at the 24h Ring.

Kevin is absolutely right, this sanction is totally unjustified... and many people think so... At 10:15 hrs, the incident happens, but the race direction needs the last lap of the race... To confirm a sanction... And when we look at the different videos, we clearly see that it is the Aston that closes... the door. So unjustified sanction... it's obvious... Shame once again, for the race direction. 🤨👎🤨👎🤨👎
