From May 14th to 17th, the 161 participating vehicles will have the opportunity to compete on the legendary Nordschleife circuit, more commonly known as the "Green Hell" due to its location in the heart of the Eifel forest. This edition is particularly anticipated, notably thanks to the presence of a certain four-time world champion. Formula 1 : Max Verstappen.
The pilot Red Bull will be one of the main attractions of the weekend. A passionate GT and sim-racing enthusiast, the Dutchman has never hidden his interest in endurance racing and the Nordschleife, while the current generation of Formula 1 cars seems to increasingly displease him. Considered one of the most demanding circuits in the world, the Nordschleife naturally attracts considerable media attention for this 54th edition.
Max Verstappen will also be competing alongside Frenchman Jules Gounon and Spaniard Daniel Juncadella, teammates with whom he won the NLS2 pre-season race before ultimately being disqualified, as well as Austrian Lucas Auer, who competed in NLS5. The quartet will be driving the Mercedes Benz-AMG GT3 #3 in Verstappen Racing colors, supported by the Winward team.
A busy schedule starting Thursday
The action will begin on Thursday, May 14th with the first free practice sessions and qualifying. As every year, the competitors will have to quickly find their bearings on the more than 25 kilometers of the circuit combining the Nürburgring GP and the Nordschleife.
Friday will be marked by the final qualifying sessions and the traditional Top Qualifying, a key moment allowing the best drivers to snatch the prestigious pole position, so crucial for avoiding potential chaos at the start. It's always a spectacular session where drivers push their own limits and those of their cars.
The race will start on Saturday, May 16th at 3:00 PM for a 24-hour race on one of the most demanding tracks in motorsport. Between constant traffic, unpredictable weather changes, and extremely fast sections, the 24 Hours of Nürburgring remains a unique event, perhaps the most difficult in the world.
French people turned out for the occasion
Several French drivers will be present at this 54th edition of the Nürburgring 24 Hours, notably in the top GT3 category with SP9 tires. As previously mentioned, Jules Gounon will drive the #3 Verstappen Racing Mercedes. Julien Andlauer and Dorian Boccolacci will be teammates in the Porsche The Dunlop Motorsport team will be driving a 911 GT3 R Evo, while Kévin Estre will be behind the wheel of the legendary "Grello" Porsche from Manthey Racing, bearing the traditional number 911. Considered one of the greatest specialists of the Nordschleife, the Frenchman could offer a spectacular duel against Max Verstappen if conditions allow. Hey everyone 👍, we're taking a break here. There's still 1 hour and 30 minutes of qualifying left, but since it's pouring rain, we're going to warm up with a nice plate of pasta 🍝 and a good bottle of wine 🍷… For Max's fans, they've fitted two extra headlights to his Mercedes for better visibility 😉. For those of you who are there, a place you absolutely shouldn't miss is the Ring Boulevard, with 6 Porsche-Manthey cars, which won the 24 Hours, a Mercedes-Red Bull-AMG one-two finish, plus the Schaeffer team's Audi, and many other surprises ‼️ Have a great rest of the evening everyone. The atmosphere here is insane; not far from us, some fans have set up a tent… and had a disco 🪩, I'm telling you… sleeping tonight… no way. To everyone… a big hello from the Nürburgring! ‼️‼️‼️‼️ The atmosphere is already fabulous… 🍺🍺🍺 We arrived around 2:30 PM, lots of fans already there, then 14 hours of setup… four of us working around the motorhome. As for the weather… it's 10 degrees Celsius as predicted, we're lucky to have a big screen 📺 to follow the race, separate from our TV! ‼️ Important for those who want to be there: no more tickets for the race… sales have stopped… Never since the creation of the 24 Hours has the circuit been so full… 👍. Tomorrow… around 2 PM I'll be in the Eiffel Tower, with friends, in a motorhome… Six days of madness ahead, and as Yves-Henri says… we're expecting over 350,000 spectators throughout the week!!! In fact, the organizer had to add more bleachers for the fans… especially the Dutch. But be warned for those who want to be there… during the day it'll be 8-10 degrees Celsius, and at night 1-4 degrees… 🥶🥶🥶 But the atmosphere is going to be fabulous! And everyone behind… MAX!
