Finishing second in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, the Red Bull Team Abt Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 was disqualified after post-race technical checks. The reason: engine power exceeding the limits permitted by the Balance of Performance.

Almost a month after the finish of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, the final standings of the German classic have been revised. The stewards have officially disqualified the No. 84 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 from the Red Bull Team Abt, driven by Luca Engstler, Mirko Bortolotti and Patric Niederhauser, had crossed the finish line in second place.

The infraction was discovered during post-race technical checks. As every year, several GT3 cars underwent thorough inspections, including dynamometer testing. In total, six cars were examined. Aston MartinBMW, Ford, Mercedes Benz-AMG and Porsche The tests were found to be compliant. Abt's Lamborghini, on the other hand, had a power output exceeding the tolerance range allowed by the Balance of Performance (BoP), the regulatory tool used to balance the performance of the different GT3 cars.

The German team chose not to appeal, making the decision final. As a direct consequence, the Walkenhorst Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 EVO, driven by Christian Krognes, Mattia Drudi, and Nicki Thiim, inherits second place. The podium is now completed by the ROWE Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO with Daniel Harper, Max Hesse, Sheldon van der Linde, and Dries Vanthoor.

The Nürburgring podium for drivers at Le Mans

This redistribution of the podium takes on a particular dimension this weekend since several of the drivers involved are also starting in the 24 Hours of Le MansAt BMW, Sheldon van der Linde and Dries Vanthoor are competing in the Hypercar category with the German manufacturer. The Belgian driver will start the Le Mans race from pole position for the 24 Hours of Le Mans on Thursday evening, confirming his excellent current form.
