The Japanese championship, which kicks off this weekend at Okayama, usually includes a race outside Japan, typically in Kuala Lumpur at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. Originally scheduled for June 20th and 21st, the Sepang 300km race has been postponed to a later date, as announced by the championship on Wednesday, April 8th.

Super GT explained in a community forum that the situation in the Middle East, and the general uncertainty it creates, forced the postponement of the event to a date yet to be announced. As the Sepang race is the only one not held in Japan, additional costs are incurred, costs that have increased dramatically since the start of the conflict in Iran.

Fahrizal Hassan, managing partner of HARO Sports, the organizing company, stated: “First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all those affected by the current situation in the Middle East. I hope that a peaceful and reconciliation-oriented solution will be found. This is not how we had envisioned the second edition of the Malaysian event, but we wish to express our sincere gratitude to the GTA (the Japanese federation), the team, and all stakeholders, including our partners, sponsors, media, and fans, for their tremendous support and understanding during this difficult time. When Malaysia returns, we promise to make this event twice as exciting as it has been so far.”

The Japanese federation has pledged to return to Malaysia when the situation allows, and when a high-level event can be held there safely for all stakeholders.
