At the Malaysian promoter's press conference for the 3rd round of SUPER GT, held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia in June, Fahrizal Hasan, Managing Partner of HARO Sports & Entertainment (HARO), the promoter of the race, announced that a vehicle wildcard would be entered in the GT500 class at the event in 2026.
At the regular press conference held by the GTA during the weekend of the 4th round of the series at the Fuji circuit, SUPER GT promoter, GTA President and CEO Masaaki Bandoh, clarified that these would not be GT500 vehicles from Toyota, Nissan or Honda, but rather old cars DTM comply with the Class 1 regulations, established as the common technical regulations for SUPER GT and DTM. Bandoh, however, highlighted the need to adapt these cars to the current SUPER GT regulations, as well as the difficulties encountered in achieving this.
