The atmosphere was heavy a few minutes before the start of the 24 Hours of Spa. Despite packed stands and a crowd enjoying the walk on the grid at the foot of the Raidillon, no one was in the mood to laugh. A few moments after the traditional national anthems, a minute of silence in tribute to Dilano van't Hoff, who died on the Combes straight a few hours earlier, reminded us how dangerous this exceptional circuit is.
This is undoubtedly to calm the heated minds of those who no longer accept this characteristic of mechanical sports.
