The day before, he complained about the Mustangs' lack of performance. Yet, four Fords dominated the first two rows of the starting grid. Cameron Waters, for Pickford Racing, believed throughout the superpole that he would be the one to start from pole on Sunday morning, but Brodie Kostecki produced the perfect lap. Pushing to the limit in every corner, the 2023 Supercars champion is becoming the equal of his childhood heroes: Peter Brock, Mark Skaife, and Greg Murphy! His joy was justified after his impressive lap: "Last year everyone told me we couldn't win from pole, we proved them wrong. With Todd (Hazelwood) we intend to do the same thing this year. In 2023, I learned a good lesson from Shane (van Gisbergen) who beat us in the race. We know what we have to do now. » Dick Johnson Racing appears to have found a setup that allows its car to perform effectively even on cold tires. This criterion will be crucial during pit stops and could be decisive for the final result.

Feeney and the others attack

The beautiful red and white Mustang will have its work cut out for it against fiercer competition than ever before. Broc Feeney and Jamie Whincup will start from 5th place and will be determined to bring victory back to the Triple Eight clan. Last year, the duo missed out by a handful of seconds. The 2025 championship leader's wish is to prevent history from repeating itself. But before that, they will have to overcome a pack made up of the two Walkinshaw Andretti United Mustangs: Wood/Ojeda in 4th and Mostert/Coulthard in 3rd! They will also have to get rid of the terrible pairing of Waters and Winterbottom. Among the disappointments, Will Brown and Scott Pye (Chevrolet Camaro- Triple Eight Engineering) will start from the 6th row. The task will be even more difficult for Matt Payne and Garth Tander (Ford Mustang- Grove Racing) 18th on the starting grid.

Join us tomorrow at 3am (French time) to follow this thrilling edition of the Bathurst 1000 kilometres on the legendary Mount Panorama circuit.
