Ideal weather conditions allowed competitors in the Southern Hemisphere's premier championship to battle it out on Saturday morning. Starting from pole position (his 17th this season), Triple Eight Engineering Camaro driver Broc Feeney had to fight hard for his 13th victory of the season. He managed to overtake Ryan Wood (Walkinshaw Andretti United) with 26 laps to go. Feeney's overtaking maneuver in the narrow streets of Adelaide was worthy of his mentors Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen. It allowed the young driver from the Gold Coast to remind everyone that he is indeed the man to beat this year. With this victory, he gained 10 points on Chaz Mostert, who crossed the finish line in second place, but almost 17 seconds behind Feeney!
Mostert is doing well
The #25 Mustang has come back from the brink after a disappointing qualifying session. The flamboyant WAU driver started 12th on the grid. Thanks to his driving skill and a well-executed strategy, he climbed the standings. His teammate, Ryan Wood, relinquished second place to him on the final corner. Mostert trails Feeney by 23 points, which in Supercars is a mere trifle in the standings. Psychologically, the two seem destined to take the Supercars championship trophy tomorrow. They will need to be cunning and decisive this Sunday morning. Both will be aiming for the first major title of their careers in this fiercely contested championship.
The other drivers fighting for the title finished 4th for Will Brown (Triple Eight) and 5th for Kai Allen (Whole grained Racing). While they shouldn't be ruled out, it seems clear that the battle that will thrill thousands of fans will be the Feeney-Mostert duel. To make sure you don't miss any of it, you'll have to get up a little early (6:45 am French time) to find out who will succeed Will Brown this season.
