The two men were showing no mercy, as evidenced by the start of the 32nd round of the season. Broc Feeney (Triple Eight) and Chaz Mostert (Walkinshaw Andretti United) got off to a very aggressive start, exchanging a few wheel-to-wheel collisions even before the first chicane. Feeney took the lead, but Mostert was right behind him. As for the other title contenders, Will Brown was involved in a collision before the end of the first lap. The reigning champion spun out and rejoined the race in last place. He finished the race in 9th position. His deficit in the standings was now 48 points. Kai Allen (Whole grained Racing) crossed the finish line in 5th place after an anonymous race on a circuit where overtaking is perilous and complicated.
At the front, the battle between Feeney and Mostert was still raging. On lap 3, the championship leader missed his braking point and ran straight into a run-off area. The mistake was slight but enough to let Mostert and Brodie Kostecki through. Cam Waters (Tickford Racing) was then just lurking behind the No. 88 Camaro. With 23 laps to go,
Ryan Wood (Walkinshaw Andretti United) played the perfect teammate for Mostert, securing the final step on the podium ahead of Feeney, who opted not to take any unnecessary risks. The race standings remained unchanged until the finish, as the race was red-flagged following a heavy crash by Thomas Randle (Tickford Racing) that damaged a barrier. The result was therefore: victory for Kostecki ahead of Mostert and Wood.
The final of the Southern Hemisphere's premier championship is far from over. Two races remain before Will Brown's successor is known. The next showdown will take place tomorrow at 6:45 AM (French time).
