Chaz Mostert was, unsurprisingly, voted performer of the day in the second race held on the streets of Surfers Paradise. He dominated his rivals once again this Sunday. The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver made a phenomenal leap in the general classification, even overtaking Bathurst 1000 winner Matt Payne (Ford Mustang- Grove Racing). Mostert moved up to second overall, just 94 points behind leader Broc Feeney (Chevrolet Camaro- Triple Eight Engineering). The day's victory wasn't as clear-cut. Mostert managed to overtake Feeney thanks to better fuel consumption management. At the end of the race, it was the local driver who made the right observation: " Chaz was better than us at saving fuel. He spent 3 seconds less than us in the pits. After that, I tried everything to overtake him, but nothing worked. What cost us the victory was that last stop!»

The fight for the playoff final will be intense

André Heimgartner, for Brad Jones Racing, put his Camaro on the podium after resisting like a madman the attacks of Matt Payne. This good result does not allow him to join the club of 7 who are now qualified for the semi-finals of the Supercars play-offs. Apart from Feeney, Mostert and Payne: Cam Waters (Tickford Racing), Will Brown (Triple Eight), Kai Allen (Grove Racing), Thomas Randle (Tickford Racing) are able to fight for the 2025 crown. If Mostert already has his ticket for the final, all the others will have to fight during the demanding round of the Sandown Superprint (not to be confused with the Sandown 500 the endurance round). Will Brown, the 2024 champion will have experienced another complicated weekend. After putting his Camaro (nicknamed Rhonda) in the rails on Saturday morning, he managed to score two good results by finishing 5th and 8th in the two Gold Coast races. He himself admits that he has very good equipment to fight at the front, but to do so he must make fewer mistakes. Having qualified for the next phase of the competition, Brown will have to put on a better face if he wants a chance at the title this season. Brodie Kostecki, the 2023 champion, has had another nightmare, (after the Bathurst disaster). The Dick Johnson Racing driver crashed his Mustang during qualifying on Saturday morning, preventing him from participating in the first race of the weekend. Rebuilt overnight by his Kostecki managed to qualify 14th for Sunday's race. But a rough race disrupted his attempts to reach the top 7! Kostecki is no longer in the title race, but he can still achieve strong results to finish 2025 on a high.

So, see you from November 14 to 16 for the penultimate meeting of the season at the Sandown Supersprint, a round which is making its big return to the calendar for the first time since 2022.
