The Sandown 500 is an important part of the SuperCars season in Australia. It is the race that allows everyone to get ready for the highlight of the year: the Bathurst 1000km. With these two rounds being run in teams of two drivers, the Sandown 500 allows the pairs to find their marks. The guest driver must get up to the level of the regular season drivers. At Triple Eight, Jamie Whincup's men are putting their trust in Scott Pye associated with Will Brown and the boss himself is partnering the young Broc Feeney. The aim of Whincup's team is to strengthen Will Brown's first place in the championship and to counter the strong comeback of Walkinshaw Andretti United led by the eccentric Chaz Mostert!

In pole position, Will Brown did not get off to the best start. It was his young teammate who took control of the race. The race was quite turbulent as usual in Australia. Brown nevertheless managed to avoid all the traps set by his opponents. It was temporarily on the podium that he left the car to his teammate Pye who completed an exemplary stint. When Brown took the wheel of his Camaro again he was fighting for first place with Broc Feeney still on his tail. The two men even came into contact without any damage to either car!

Mostert not varnished!

For the other teams, the race was more eventful, as Chaz Mostert, who thought he was playing a trick on the championship leaders, saw his teammate Lee Holdsworth spin out of control when a podium place seemed to be on offer for the Mustang with the number 25. Mozzy had nevertheless tried everything. He took control of the race after delaying his last stop as long as possible. Unfortunately for him, the two triple 8 Camaros were following him closely when he had to dive into the pit straight about twenty laps from the checkered flag. The race was marred by numerous incidents and the safety car was called out one last time on the track a few minutes from the end. It was a final sprint that allowed Will Brown to prove that his place as championship leader was not usurped. He crossed the finish line with less than half a second ahead of Feeney who had tried everything in the final stages to try to claim another victory at Sandown after the one obtained in 2023. In third place was the Camaro of James Golding and David Russell who signed a superb result for PremiAir Racing. The Mostert-Holdsworth pair crossed the finish line in a frustrating 7th place.

Will Brown and Scott Pye could rejoice and celebrate a resounding victory. Will Brown was very enthusiastic about his partnership with the newcomer at Triple Eight: " Scott did an exceptional job during his stint. He adapted perfectly to the team and allowed me to finish the race in style despite the pressure that Broc put on me during the last minutes of the race. I knew that I couldn't make the slightest mistake, otherwise the order on the podium would probably have been reversed. I'm super happy to have won this first endurance race. It bodes very well for what's coming in a few weeks.." In the championship standings, Brown regains a hundred points lead over Mostert, who sees Feeney come back to 33 points.

Remember this date for the big event of the season: the 1000 km of Bathurst will be held on October 13.
