23 points separated Chaz Mostert from Broc Feeney this morning, before the final race of the season. The Triple Eight Engineering driver thought he had done part of the job by securing his 19th pole position of the season! This grid position gave him the confidence he needed to cap off a year he had completely dominated. Alongside him on the front row was Matt Payne of Whole grained Racing. The second row was entirely occupied by Walkinshaw Andretti United, with Ryan Wood in 3rd and Chaz Mostert in 4th. At the start, Feeney was caught out by Payne and found himself under pressure from Wood. Everything went fairly well for the Camaro driver until turn 6. It was at this moment that Wood launched an attack on Feeney's No. 88. Squeezed between the wall and the Triple Eight car, Wood couldn't avoid contact, sending Feeney into a spin. The championship leader rejoined the race in 21st position!

Feeney's ordeal

This marked the beginning of a long and painful ordeal for the 22-year-old. Although he managed to climb back up to 13th place, Feeney suffered from mechanical problems that prevented him from gaining any more positions. This engine issue had already plagued him in the previous day's race (Feeney still managed to win race 33). To make matters worse, his pit stop on lap 31 was disastrous, with a stubborn right rear wheel causing him to drop down the standings again. Feeney went back out determined, but his Camaro was still damaged. At the front of the race, Chaz Mostert was cruising. The No. 25 Mustang held a comfortable second place. With Wood having received a 15-second penalty for contact with Feeney, Mostert was driving without any pressure, about ten seconds behind the leader, Matt Payne.

The race standings remained unchanged until the checkered flag. Matt Payne won the final round of the season (his 5th victory in 2025) ahead of Chaz Mostert and Will Brown (Triple Eight). This result was enough to secure the title for Mostert. It was the first of his career after 12 years in the top tier for the 33-year-old WAU rider. A very emotional young man delivered his first words as champion: I can tell you that everyone around me had resigned themselves to the idea that this title would never come. I've been chasing it for so long. It's a true liberation. It's a fantastic reward for over 20 years of hard work. I can only thank my Walkinshaw Andretti United team. Winning this title with Ford in our last year with them, I'm overjoyed."In the Triple Eight garage, the pill was much harder to swallow for Broc Feeney. In tears, he found the courage to come and speak out: Congratulations to Chaz on this title I've always dreamed of. We had an incredible season with my team, I'll remember it for the rest of my life. But then, Supercars chose this playoff system which throws everything into question in the final races. It's very hard to accept, but that's the way it is. I can tell you that I'll be out of the spotlight for a while, and we'll get back to work to come back even stronger next year.. "

Quite a few new things are expected next season with the arrival of Toyota within the Walkinshaw Andretti United and Triple Eight teams, which are switching from Chevrolet to Ford. There's no doubt that the 2026 season is already shaping up to be thrilling if it's contested with the same commitment and level of competitiveness as in 2025.
