The start of the race was, as usual, a bit tumultuous in the Australian Supercars peloton. Pole sitter Cameron Waters (Tickford Racing) was grilled by his teammate Thomas Randle who took the lead at the first corner. Chaz Mostert took second place from the Monster Energy driver very quickly in the race as well. Mosy can then pounce on Randle to play for victory. It was during the pit stops that the WAU driver took control of the 15th race of the season. Thanks to a very fine strategy, Matt Payne's Penrite Racing allowed the No. 19 Mustang to make a considerable jump in the standings. Thanks to his second very late stop, he took the lead at the expense of Mostert's car. But with four laps to go, the No. 25 regains the advantage over Matt Payne.
It's a trio of Ford Mustangs that make up the podium: Mostert wins ahead of Payne and Randle in the cool of the Sydney night (the top 5 is made up exclusively of Ford Mustangs, editor's note). In the championship standings, Brown is still the leader ahead of his teammate Broc Feeney, Chaz Mostert is back in the title race. His deficit is now only 126 points behind the Triple Eight Engineering driver (victory earning 150 points!). The second race takes place this Sunday in the middle of the afternoon.
