This is a performance that is not seen every year in the PCCF. The last time a rookie actually managed to win a race in the first meeting of the year in the category was Dorian Boccolacci, in 2021. In Barcelona last weekend, Macéo Capietto managed to dominate Marvin Klein in Race 2, in which the ABM driver nevertheless had more speed.
“I got off to a great start. I found myself in the lead with a small gap, but Florian Latorre was faster at the beginning,” he explains to us. Especially in the last corner, so it forced me to defend in turn 1. Then Florian and Marvin battled, Marvin got past, which gave me a bit of breathing room, but I couldn't increase the gap. Marvin came back like a rocket! That's when the real battle began. The goal was to secure the inside of the corners to get a good exit on the apex. I tried to block Marvin behind me, and it worked well. He almost got past a few times, especially in turn 10, but I managed to hold my position nonetheless.
A pleasant surprise for Macéo Capietto
"I didn't expect to win the race, no," he then concedes to usThe goal for this weekend was clear: to learn what was possible and fight at the front to secure a good position in the championship. It's a pleasant surprise; we have the pace to do what's needed. Now, we'll need to find a little more to win more comfortably, because in terms of pace, these first two races were quite difficult. I remain confident for the future; things should get better and better.
Although the room for improvement for the Martinet by Alméras driver is still a reality against a driver who has already won this competition twice, it seems that the battle between the two can continue this year. "Marvin and I went to congratulate each other. We had a great, respectful battle. A few minor bumps here and there, but that's racing, it was great."
Next stop: Dijon, for the second round of the year, from May 15th to 17th.
