In the workshop of Affalterbach Racing GmbH, the branch responsible for customer racing activities since last July and the reorganization of the GT department, a project is being created. That of the new GT3 of Mercedes.

While it has been bringing glory to the Étoile and its customers since 2016, the Mercedes-AMG GT3, the EVO version of which appeared in 2020, is set to withdraw from the circuits in the short term as the manufacturer will make its grand debut in WEC this year. On the other hand, little information has filtered through regarding the heiress except that it could be based on the production Mercedes-AMG GT 63.

As for its official debut, the management of the firm does not have the ambition to rush. Currently in development, the heir to the Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be available " as soon as possible " in 2027 for all customers, we assure internally.

« We are on time, confirms Stefan Wendl, Director of Customer Programs, from Sportscar365. That’s still the case, which is a good thing. We still plan to send it to the track for testing for the first time in 2025. »

As for approval as early as 2026, Stefan Wendl refuted this possibility, stating that he was simply " Impossible ". " Other manufacturers, if they do, are probably developing their cars behind the scenes.. he continues. But it takes more than half a year between the debut on the circuit and the presentation to the customer. (to approve it). »

While waiting for 2027 and delivery to its customers, Mercedes will use 2026 to launch its new GT3 in competition in championships that allow non-homologated cars. This is an opportunity for the brand to get a first general idea of its performance and to test it in what is closest to real racing conditions. For example the NLS (the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie championship takes place entirely on this circuit), he emphasizes.

It is very important to have this kind of learning beforehand. It is different to be on a test track with only one or two cars, than in competition where you face racing incidents, you touch other cars, accidents too… You have to do these tests because we are also addressing customers »
