In a press release, the championship organizer, WSC, explained that it had to put the TCR World Ranking final, which was to bring together many of the world's best touring car drivers at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy, "on hold." The event, scheduled for November 21 and 22, is postponed for the time being, as was the case for the first world final, planned for the end of 2023. That event was initially rescheduled for March 2024 before being ultimately canceled and integrated into the FIA Motorsport Games.
“WSC has announced that the FIA TCR World Ranking final has been suspended. Following the interest shown in this project, WSC devoted considerable effort to planning the event several months in advance, scheduling it in Vallelunga on November 21 and 22 and creating an attractive prize pool. However, the expected interest ultimately did not materialize by the registration deadline. WSC is currently analyzing the reasons for this situation and will explore possible options for the future of the project with TCR customers.”
The TCR World Ranking is a ranking system introduced by WSC in 2022, designed to rank the performances of TCR riders, whether or not they compete in the World Tour (the intercontinental championship), in the same way as the ATP or WTA rankings in tennis. In the latest update, Sweden's Thed Björk leads the rankings, ahead of Frenchman Yann Ehrlacher, who is expected to close the gap or even take the lead on Wednesday when the next rankings are released, following his excellent weekend in China.
