Two spectacular races took place this Sunday morning on the Zhuhou circuit in China, Lynk & Co's home race. The Chinese manufacturer has employed Yann Ehrlacher since the 2019 season. The nephew of Yvan Muller and son of Cathy Muller has more than fulfilled his contract since the beginning of this partnership: a two-time World Cup winner in 2020 and 2021, the young man is on track to make this new season a third star. Since the start of the year, he has demonstrated the skill and consistency that make him the natural leader of the TCR World Tour with one round remaining. The Zhuhou circuit is not an easy track, being very demanding on tires and difficult with a heavy car. As is now his custom, the Alsatian once again raced with 30kg of extra weight on board his Lynk&CO 03. He finished 5th in the first heat and continues to control his lead over his teammate Thed Bjork, who is second, 27 points behind.
Cyan Racing wins its 3rd consecutive world title
The Swedish team and the Chinese manufacturer Lynk & Co. continue their fruitful partnership with a third consecutive title for the men in blue. The Nordic team's dominance is one of the most spectacular in touring car racing in the last decade. The title was decided yesterday with all four of its drivers finishing in the points: Thed Björk (P2), Yann Ehrlacher (P5), Qing Hua Ma (P6), and Santiago Urrutia (P10). Urrutia started from pole position in the first race on Sunday. The Uruguayan drove an excellent race until it was interrupted a few laps from the end. Yann Ehrlacher managed to catch up to his teammate when the race restarted. Urrutia then secured the victory for the Alsatian driver, who won his fifth race of the season. He further increased his lead over Björk, who finished only 4th after receiving a penalty for a slightly too close encounter with Aurélien Comte (SP Compétition) during the race. What a crazy competition it was, with unbridled drivers giving it their all on a soaking wet track, while the majority of competitors remained on slick tires. The big loser was once again Esteban Guerrieri (Goat Racing), forced to retire due to a mechanical problem. He now trails Ehrlacher by 101 points, and the Argentinian is no longer in contention for the overall victory.
Race three was once again won by Aurélien Comte for Sylvain Pussier's team, SP Compétition. The Frenchman finished ahead of Björk and Ehrlacher, who remain neck and neck. However, Comte holds a significant advantage in the standings, with a 34-point lead over his teammate. With over 50 points up for grabs in Macau, the French driver's advantage will be considerable. Without a doubt, the TCR World Tour finale promises to be intense in the streets of the former Portuguese capital. The dates are set for November 15th and 16th.
